  2. ELECTRONIC PRINT MEDIA SERVICE USER'S GUIDE

  5. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  6. ------------------
  7.  
  8. Electronic Print Media Service images require application(s) that are
  9. compatible with TIFF and/or EPS file formats. The TIFF images are saved
  10. as TIFF (version 5.0) files in Adobe Photoshop. EPS images are saved as
  11. Adobe Illustrator 1.1 files. Any other hardware requirements will be
  12. based primarily on the applications you use and the type of final output
  13. you plan to produce. For best results, your printer should be 
  14. PostScript compatible.
  15.  
  16. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to 
  17. use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.

  19. ART SELECTION
  20. -------------
  21. ** Tearsheet Magazine **
  22. Tearsheet contains a printed pictorial index, which provides thumbnail and 
  23. file name for each image in the issue.

  25. USING THE CLIP ART
  26. ------------------
  27. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  28. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the 
  29. TIFF and EPS files as you would any other pictures. The following 
  30. page layout programs are compatible with both TIFF & EPS file 
  31. formats:
  32.  *Aldus PageMaker
  33.  *QuarkXpress
  34.  *Ventura Publisher
  35.  
  36. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  37. Open your draw program, then Open or Import the EPS file. These 
  38. images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The following 
  39. draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  40.  *Adobe Illustrator
  41.  *Aldus FreeHand (TIFF files can be placed into a document)
  42.  *Arts & Letters (Use Decipher to convert EPS to GED)
  43.  *Corel Draw! (TIFF files can be imported into a document)
  44.  *Microgrfx Designer
  45. Many of your Electronic Print Media Service EPS images are provided
  46. as layered  illustrations. This means that several elements can be
  47. lifted out  of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In order
  48. to pull  apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a PostScript draw 
  49. program is necessary.

  51. ** PAINT PROGRAMS **
  52. The TIFF files are either 300 dpi black and white images or 170 dpi 
  53. grayscale, duotone or color images. They can be manipulated like any 
  54. other TIFF image in the following programs:
  55.  *Adobe Photoshop (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  56.  *Gray FX
  57.  *Image-In
  58.  *PhotoStyler (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  59.  *Publisher's Paintbrush
  60.  *Touch-Up
  61.  
  62. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your 
  63. manual for compatibility.
